Honda Shuttle 1.5G LED
The Honda Shuttle 1.5G LED is an immensely popular 5 seater station wagon and for all the right reasons. It is reliable, sensible, powerful enough and packed with desirable features.
Heavily based on the Honda Fit, it adds more space for both the passengers and cargo, offering all the benefits of the Honda Fit and expanding on them.
Affordable wagons can hardly set design benchmarks. However, they can offer modern design features that keep them in line with the current trends. This is exactly what the Honda Shuttle is. Moreover, it adds a bit of flair to the lines of the Fit which make it stand out and also actually look more up to date.
Looking at the front, the Honda Shuttle 1.5 G features a grille and wonderful adaptive LED headlights incorporated into a single section. The front fascia descends towards the bumper both making it look more aggressive and improving aerodynamics.
A wider stance also makes the car look better and feel more stable while cornering and a lip spoiler up front adds to the aggression of the Honda Shuttle 1.5G from up front, especially with those lights on in the Honda Shuttle LED variant.
Modern Yet Practical
There are three rows of large windows, hiding the front and rear seats and the boot, respectively. The boot is obviously large for this class, as we will talk about in a minute, and the exterior silhouette is dictated by this practical segment.
However, it’s not all utilitarian. Modern cuts are obvious here as well with pronounced creases and a rising window line that is reminiscent of even some MPV models.
The rear features a large, upright boot door which both increases the interior space and makes storing large objects in the boot easier.
Engine Of The Honda Shuttle 1.5G
It is a naturally aspirated 1.5L i-VTEC that produces 130 bhp (97 kW) and 155 Nm of torque. It is surprisingly zippy, mostly thanks to the low weight of the Honda Shuttle as it can reach 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and top out at 185 km/h, more than any driver of this car will practically ever need.
It is paired with a CVT gearbox that aims to give the best efficiency and a well-measured response when you press the pedal to the metal.
The Honda Shuttle 1.5G has a fuel consumption of 21.8 km per litre.
On the inside, there is a lot to like, but the main appeal for most buyers will be the added space. The Honda Shuttle also offers the added versatility of the Magic Seat which lets you fold the seat cushions upwards to make room for transporting objects that are taller and wouldn’t fit otherwise.
While this feature is offered only on specific models of the Honda Fit, the Honda Shuttle 1.5G gets it as standard on all versions.
Spacious Headroom And Legroom
The cabin is very spacious. The engine is pushed up front which clears the space for more room in the cabin. The central console and the dashboard make the ergonomics perfect and the design clear and appealing. Of course, there are cup and bottle holders, central console bin and a glovebox.
Very importantly, rear passengers in the Honda Shuttle 1.5G will have lots of space. Legroom and headroom are both plentiful and a very low transmission tunnel makes things even better.
More Than Adequate Boot Space
With 470L of boot capacity, the Honda Shuttle is among the leaders in its segment of the market. The decision to put practicality ahead of style in terms of exterior shape makes the boot even more appealing. The shape is very practical, with few protruding parts, the opening is huge and there is no load lip. The seats also fold and split 60/40 for up to almost 1150L.
With its tough, durable materials, the cabin is well put together, and the metallic-effect components on the dash and doors give it a distinctive, modern feel.
The cabin feels more luxurious than the car’s price tag would suggest.
Features & Technology Of The Honda Shuttle
The Honda Shuttle 1.5G comes with a number of tech features that make living with it a lot more pleasant.
Depending on the version, these include things like adaptive high beam which automatically determines the right angle of the light beam based on if the car is tilted back, for example when the boot is heavily loaded. Also, the headlights have the option of automatically turning on when the engine is running.
Honda Sensing is another very welcome feature. It is a combination of seven safety features that pull information from several cameras and sensors and make things like collision mitigation brake system, erroneous start suppression, pedestrian accident reduction steering, off-road departure suppression, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist possible.
Of course, you also get standard things like ABS, EBD, hill start assist, vehicle stability assist and more.
Is the Honda Shuttle a Good Car?
If you are looking for a car that boasts the simplicity, ergonomics and price point of a small city car, but need more space, there aren’t many better options out there than the Honda Shuttle. It adds to the offer by giving more space and interior versatility, more features, lively engine, while keeping the modern style and technology features.
However, while the benefit of the extra space and features are very easy to point out, one should not forget that the Honda Shuttle is still a small car that feels perfectly at home in the busy city streets and tight car parks. It is easy to maneuver, very nice to drive and it seems to give the best of both worlds when it comes to marrying compact dimensions, interior spaciousness and practicality. The Honda Shuttle is not just a good car. It is a winner in this segment!
