Mercedes Benz E 200

Calling the Mercedes-Benz E-Class a legend is an understatement. For decades now, it has been the benchmark for mid-size executive cars. What all those models have in common is that they push the boundaries of the industry in terms of design, engineering and technology.

The latest version of the E200 that we have here is a proud part of this heritage.

It packs a modern, fun, yet sensible powertrain that comes with an unprecedented interior in terms of design, technology and space, it is packed with the latest safety features and it carries the brand recognition of the three-pointed star. If you are looking for an executive luxury car, this is it.

Overall, the Mercedes E200 is a proper modern luxury sedan, with a curvaceous body, smart flowing lines and an elegant posture. Luxury cars have to be conspicuous yet modern and the Mercedes E200 ticks all the boxes.

The front has that lovely Mercedes-Benz grille with a chrome surround, combined with the sleek LED headlights and a modern-looking bumper, especially on the AMG Line version, make the Mercedes E200 look both aggressive and elegant at the same time.

The AMG Line includes extras like 18” AMG alloys (17” on E200 Sport), larger air intakes, a special grille and more.

The overall silhouette of the Mercedes E200 is the most successful part of its design and it is no wonder that it is shared with its smaller and larger siblings from the same generation, the S-Class and the C-Class. It is just a very successful creation.

Engine And Drive

The engine is a 2-litre inline-4 turbo with 194 hp and 320 Nm of torque in a lovely wide torque curve. Moreover, it gets 13 hp from an electric motor to help provide a bit of extra boost.

It is paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic developed by Mercedes-Benz. It helps the car reach 100km/h in just 7.5 seconds and top out at 240 km/h.

Press the pedal and it takes a split second before the car takes off with confidence. The reason for this is the amazing combination of a wide torque curve and that 9G-Tronic automatic.

The turbocharged engine provides torque from very low revs up to 4000rpm. With such a large rev range, the gearbox has a really easy job and it keeps the engine in the most comfortable and most efficient revs almost all the time.

The decades of experience also make the mix of handling and comfort spot on. The Mercedes E200 is a comfortable, pampering cruising machine that will also give you lots of control during spirited driving. Choosing between Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Run and Individual drive modes helps emphasize the segment of the driving dynamics that suits the moment best.

The interior of the Mercedes E200 is in line with the current generation trends. This means it has flowing lines, great material, two large screens (one with the intuitive MBUX with voice controls) touchpad controls, wireless charging, the latest steering wheel design and functionality and lots more.

However, the main appeal of the Mercedes E200 interior is the overall feel. The flowing layout with soft lines, premium wood, two 12.3-inch screens, loads of leather and a slanted central console really feels premium, as well as ergonomic and spacious. All that put together simply makes the Mercedes E200 a very pleasant place to be in.

This is one of the most successful designs in the industry and the latest facelift upgrades only add to the appeal with the likes of the new 3-spoke AMG steering wheel covered in Nappa leather which successfully combines a retro feel with the latest design trends and very easy use of its numerous features.

The large screens are utilized very well, featuring loads of customization and practical features, including things like the Active Parking Assist, for example. It is much easier to park the spacious car when you can see everything that is happening around it on this crisp screen.

Rear seats are similarly comfortable and they can carry three adults. The seats are very comfortable, cushioning the passengers and making even long trips relaxing.

The boot has a capacity of 540L and the rear seats further fold 40/20/40 for added versatility.

Safety Features

As expected, the Mercedes E200 is big on safety features. Just some of the standard features include ABS, ESP, Active Parking Assist, Active Bonnet, Active Braking Assist, Adaptive Brake System with HOLD function and brake drying in the wet, Attention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, electronic parking brake, PRE-SAFE, Agility Control suspension, KEYLESS-GO, rain sensors and much more.

Sport And AMG Line

There are two trim levels, Sport and AMG Line. While they do share most of the design features, that AMG in the name makes a lot of difference, as it adds different wheels, AMG body styling and also practical features like four-way lumbar support, MULTIBEAM intelligent light system, paddle shifters and that wonderful new AMG steering wheel covered in Nappa leather and lots more.

Is The Mercedes E200 A Good Car?

It’s a Mercedes-Benz, it’s an E-Class model, the bread and butter of the brand and this particular one is a proud continuation of the venerated bloodline. Moreover, in the E200 guise, it is a sensible car to buy, coming at a lower cost and providing better fuel efficiency and a great mix of safety, technology, comfort and performance. This car is a joy to own in so many ways.
