Mercedes Benz GLC 300 SUV
Description:
The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4matic is one of those cars you buy because it excites you. It’s an SUV, it looks amazing, it is spacious and luxurious, it is packed with the latest technology and it has an engine with the perfect combination of fuel efficiency and power.
What’s not to like?
Exterior Of The Mercedes Benz GLC
On the outside, the Mercedes-Benz GLC is a modern SUV with a sleek, yet practical design. AMG Line features further add to the aggression. The front hosts sleek LED headlights that flank a modern chrome-spotted diamond radiator grille and a set of large intakes. AMG wheels are also standard in this trim and they complement the look very well.
The side boasts a bit subdued plastic cladding, large enough to emphasize the SUV nature but not too large to hamper the elegance of the design. LED taillights, electric tailgate and chrome details at the bottom complete the rear design of this stylish SUV.
LED technology will continue to advance, allowing designers to do more creative things with it as it becomes smaller and thinner.
Standard LED lighting on the GLC 300 creates a pure white light, a large spread and saturation of forward illumination, and a good representation of the road ahead with plenty of light cast on it.
Engine Specifications
A 2L inline four-cylinder engine under the bonnet provides a very nice punch throughout the rpm range. Turbocharger makes all the difference so this unit produces 258 hp and 370 Nm of torque. The Mercedes GLC also has the famed EQ Boost system for a slight boost in the power and torque.
The 9-speed automatic is the most common gearbox in Mercedes-Benz vehicles nowadays, so it has had more than enough time and chances to be tweaked, tuned and perfected. The results are just perfect.
It is a combination of smooth and fast, generally aiming for the best efficiency and maximum comfort, keeping the revs nice and low and shifts seamless, but it also gets into the performance mode with ease and delivers quick shifts and the power of the upper rpm register.
With an official fuel consumption of 8.2L per 100 km, a top speed of 239 km/h and the sprint from a zero to 100km/h ib just 6.2 seconds, the Mercedes-Benz GLC seems to hit the sweet spot between performance and efficiency.
With nine gears to choose from, it is very easy for the engine to be in the most efficient rpm pretty much all the time.
The push seems ever-ready and it takes a second to jump from a peaceful cruise to a confident overtake. Suspension is comfortable but controlled. The Mercedes Benz GLC class is a supple vehicle in most cases, but its handling also inspires confidence.
Interior Of The Mercedes Benz GLC
The interior is a special story. The Mercedes Benz GLC class really made this overall layout look very nice in a number of vehicles and it is so in the GLC as well. As expected, material quality is spot on with Nappa leather and open-pore black ash wood sprinkled with chrome details and the tech is on par with the best in its class, if not the best.
The central console is very prominent and comes with a very sleek looking touchpad that has a practically intuitive way of controlling the system. The 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment screen comes standard with DAB digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a number of customisation features.
Speaking of which, the ambience of the interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4matic can be customised using ambient lighting with 64 colour options. It can really make a significant difference in the way that the interior of the GLC feels.
The steering wheel of the GLC is a work of art. This combination of metal and fine Nappa leather gives a premium feel, while providing heaps of functions to control almost everything on the vehicle. Even though the number of controls is plentiful, clever separation into button, roller and touch functions makes interaction very easy.
Of course, there are loads of other tech features like wireless charging, heated front seats, rain sensors, voice control and automatic two-zone climate control.
Space on the inside is ample. Passengers up front get an airy, luxurious cabin, but even in the rear there is more than enough space. Three adults can be driven in the Mercedes-Benz GLC and two will have a very pleasant experience.
Mercedes GLC AMG Line
Because of its distinct grille, the Mercedes GLC AMG line variant is easily recognizable. There are many silver dots on the two-spoke design.
Mercedes calls this a Diamond radiator grille.
In addition to the new front bumper, the AMG Line car has a rear diffuser, larger 19-inch alloy wheels, and a sportier-looking front bumper.
Safety Features
As expected, the Mercedes-Benz GLC is a very safe car. Just some of the standard safety features include active parking assist with PARKTRONIC feature, active bonnet, adaptive brake system with HOLD function, alarm system with immobilizer and interior protection, driver attention assist, child seat recognition sensor, electric parking brake, electronic stability programme with curve dynamic assist and crosswind assist, loads of airbags and several safety systems joined in something Mercedes calls ‘Collision Prevention Assist Plus’.
Is The Mercedes Benz GLC 300 A Good Car?
Yes the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 is in fact a very good car. It looks like the perfect compromise in almost every aspect and yet it adds some extra perks in all fields.
It’s a spacious SUV and yet it doesn’t feel bulky. It shares design features and many other benefits with its larger, more expensive siblings. This car has more power than you will ever practically need and it can put a smile on your face when you press the pedal, yet it is still very fuel-efficient.
Coupled with the lovely interior, awesome build quality, loads of tech and safety features, it is one car that you can’t say no to.
